expecting baby: week seventeen

I felt the baby move! Actually, I think I've felt it move a couple times, but last night it was definite.
We stayed up super late because it was New Year's Eve (Happy new year!) and we went to bed shortly after three. Sometime in the middle of the night or the middle of the morning I woke up because I felt it.
Like I felt it a lot.
I sleep with my hands on my tummy when I'm pregnant. It's like a cuddly thing. And I'm still small enough that I don't have to sleep on my side yet.
There was a fist sized, hard... ball (for lack of a better word) in my lower abdomen just a little to the right. At first in my sleep deprived haze I thought that it was just me being incoherent. But it wasn't. I was pushing on it with my hand and just kept thinking that there was no way I could feel that itty bitty thing from the outside, so well, this early. I even jabbed AJ a couple times with my elbow hoping he'd wake up and validate that I wasn't in a sleep induced coma. He didn't even move.
So I just lay there with my hand on it for a few minutes when baby just swished away out from under my hand.
I'm telling you. It was cool.

I told the kids that the baby could hear noises and talking from outside.
So Charlotte curled up next to me and talked to my belly for a good ten minutes. She just kept saying, "Baby, baby. I love you, baby. Sweet baby."
My baby was talking to my baby.

My next appointment is on the 8th, at which time they'll set up a time for the ultrasound. So we're about 2 or 3 weeks out from knowing baby's gender. Yay! I don't know how people wait to find out; I would die.
Anyone want to guess?

  1. I felt Bentley at 16 weeks and Mike felt him a few days later. And given the size of your babies I am sure you felt it... it may be a little on the big side;) I of course am saying Boy but honestly I dont care either way :) (dont tell Drew ;)
